Flutterby Creationz

I recently became acquainted with the lady behind all of the beautiful creations at Flutterby Creationz on Etsy. Her name is Denise. She makes all sorts of flower hairclips, brooches, and headbands for ladies of all ages, from newborn through 99. She asked me if I would take some pictures of babies and girls wearing her creations and naturally, being a mom of 3 little girls, I was delighted to accept the task.

I just added a new gallery to my website called “Commercial”. Right now this album strictly features kids wearing her handmade artwork. Here’s a few pictures from last year.

You can view her work at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/FlutterbyCreationz

Denise is simply a delightful lady with a beautiful family and an amazing story. Here’s a picture of her family from a session we did last fall. Note that both she and her daughter are also wearing some of Denise’s handmade creations.

A Few More Pics

Posted on December 31, 2011

Here are a few more pics of Kaitlyn that we took when she was three weeks old. We have pics of my other two girls resting on their Daddy’s hands so we had to get one this time around too. My favorite pose was of her laying tummy up, instead of tummy down. She so often makes that “Oh!” expression. Then, on Christmas morning, I finally got the courage to put on her head some of the hats I had made for her. Before then, I couldn’t bring myself to cover up her gorgeous hair.

Kaitlyn Arrived!!

Posted on December 29, 2011

After a very long pregnancy, our third baby girl finally arrived on December 1. She was 9 days early and boy is it a good thing she came when she did; she was more than fully grown and ready to come out. Kaitlyn weighed in at a healthy 9 pounds 5.5 ounces. I labored for 10 hours this time around and only took 45 minutes to push her out. Kaitlyn, though a week and a half early, had done a little meconium in utero, something that usually only happens when babies are overdue. Instead of being placed right up on my chest when she came out, Kaitlyn was whisked away to the table beside my bed to be suctioned out by the pediatrician. Fortunately, she seemed to be okay after being suctioned out twice. We were all so excited to finally meet this little girl, especially me. She was here and she was okay and she was beautiful with a head full of long, dark hair.

Above: Four days old.

One week old and modeling one of Denise Pettit’s handmade headbands. (see Flutterby Creationz link on the blogsite’s menu bar).

Our three girls. The oldest one absolutely adores her baby sister and can’t seem to stop giving her kisses throughout the day. She loves to hold her baby sister, rock her and sing her lullabies to calm her down. Our middle child also loves her baby sister.

More pictures soon!

Little Miss Curly Head

Posted on September 12, 2011

How can you not love her gorgeous head of hair. My girls had no hope of ever having curly hair, maybe wavy hair, but not curly hair. It’s such a fascinating thing to me. I love watching kids grow up and getting to photograph them at different stages of their babyhood is pretty special. Here’s a few pics from Miss Sara’s 18 month old pics.

Playing with the Girls

Posted on September 12, 2011

I had my studio equipment set up again and the girls really wanted some pictures done of them. So, we had fun playing around and here’s a few pictures from their playtime. They were having such fun and actually got grumpy with me because I told them it was time to quit taking pics. ha! My oldest turned 5 on August 6, just two days after we took these pics. My how time flies!

Two Boys, A Lil’ Girl and Sunnies (aka, sunglasses)

Posted on August 1, 2011

Sometimes I have a really hard time choosing a few favorite photos from a session, let alone a single favorite one. Memories. Moments. Smiles. Togetherness. That was the case with this session. I love photographing these kids. Their lighthearted energy and smiles just seem to carry those around them, and they seem so relaxed in front of the camera. Their little sister was born a few months ago and I blogged some of her newborn pics (see two posts below). Here’s just a few pictures from this session. As I said, I couldn’t pick my favorites so here’s two or three to show you how cute these kids are.

A Father’s Day Gift

Posted on August 1, 2011

Father’s Day was coming up. If you’re like me you may struggle with what to buy the man who seems to have everything he needs and wants nothing. My uncle came up with a wonderful idea–he asked for some new family pictures of his daughter’s family. So that’s what we did! I joined them at a favorite family location for some pictures. It was hot and humid. The sun was high and harsh. But we got some great pictures! All of the little girls are just gorgeous. I felt it was a privilege to be asked to capture these moments in time for them.

Here’s the collage of pics that ended up on my uncle’s office wall.

And here are two other pics that I liked of the oldest two girls. Instead of the traditional black and white pictures, that day I was more in the chocolate mood, inspired by the brown in the girls outfits. So, I figured out how to turn the blacks to more of a chocolate color and created a photoshop action for myself that I can reuse. I like it. What do you think?

This last pic was taken at the very end of the session. I had asked the girls to play ring around the rosy but one of the girls was not too happy that I didn’t want my own daughter to play. She didn’t understand I was still wanting pics of just them, of just my cousin’s girls. Finally the two agreed to play once, I snapped a few pics, then let my girls join in on the fun.

New Baby Girl

Posted on May 20, 2011

One of my friends recently welcomed her 3rd baby into the world. The gender was a surprise for delivery day. And surely everyone was surprised when a baby girl came to join her two older brothers! She was by far the tiniest baby I have ever worked with. She weighed in just over 6 pounds at birth. How sweet she was. Here’s a few pictures from her session at less than 1 week old. I wanted to get a shot like the first picture below, but the first day we took pics she did not want to go to sleep, so we tried again a second day. She slept beautifully the whole time and basically let me pose her in any position! I also learned how to knit last year and have been knitting all sorts of baby hats and things to use. I knitted the little bunny hat the night before the shoot. It fit her head. And the hat Lydia is wearing in the picture below was a newborn size hat I’d purchased off of Etsy a long time ago–but it should have been labeled a preemie size. I’d never photographed a baby small enough to fit in the hat. But it fit her perfectly! What fun I had. I love funky baby hats.

Little Miss Savannah

Posted on April 3, 2011

What a lovely day it was to photograph this precious little girl. This is youngest one of my cousin’s three little girls. I needn’t have worried that Savannah was going to be fussy because she was just as happy as can be! I was so excited to see all of her smiles. They were simply beautiful! In fact, I’m tempted to say that she almost enjoyed the photo session! Here’s a few of the pics.

Guess who turned 3 a few weeks ago? My baby!

Posted on March 17, 2011

My baby turned 3 this month. Oh how quickly the time flies. Here’s a picture taken shortly after my little Em was born in Australia some 3 years ago.

And here’s a few fun pics we took of her sitting on our bed on her birthday. Em LOVES all things girlie–pink, twirly, ruffly, sparkly, pretty. That’s her. The pink pillow is from one of the girls’ beds too.

Em is also my silly girl. She’s either laughing, giggling, goofing off, dancing around the house, or she’s whining and crying about something. The only time she’s really just calm and quiet is when she’s coloring or painting. And then the concentration in her face makes me laugh, and so she starts to laugh. And the cycle starts over.

And these are my girls. Sisters. Oh how they love each other. A good portion of the time the two play so well together that I forget how little they still are. They have the best imaginations and come up with the craziest games and scenarios. However, like all good siblings,  they have plenty of those moments when I swear they’d practically kill each other if I let them have at it.  But then I get the chance to capture quiet moments of the two of them together just being sweet and snuggling, and it reminds me of how much they really do love each other. I look at pictures like this when I’m so frustrated at the way they’ve been treating each other. It reminds me of how blessed I am and of how blessed they are to have each other. (This pic was unposed. I was just watching the two of them playing on the bed together.) One good thing about being a mother is treasuring moments like this.
