This Senior is getting his pilot's license so we headed over to the airport for a few pictures! First image below is the plane he actually flies in. 2nd image below is just an old plane at the airport.
And here are a few favorites from one senior session last year:
Really LOVED the light coming in from these old factory windows.
And I loved that his hair matched all of the rust around the outside of those old factory windows.
The more I do Senior sessions the more I find I love them!
]]>Here's a few pictures from his session at the Asheville Botanic Gardens.
At first he was really shy and stuck pretty close to his Dad. A few crackers also seemed to help.
Soon enough he was running around, laughing, being silly and exploring the world around him.
Then his Mom quickly changed his clothes and we walked down to the creek to explore. Throwing rocks in the creek was a favorite but the water must have felt too chilly to play in. He did not want to get his toes wet!
I love the haziness in this photo. And those overalls and hat--Mom couldn't have picked a more perfect outfit!

I love being able to photograph kids at their own house. It's not only the kids who are are more relaxed and at-ease in front of the camera, but I find that the parents are much calmer as well. They haven't had to get their child (or children) all dressed up, load up all their kids (if more than one) into the car and stress they their little girl might mess up her hair on the way to the photo session. Then, once arriving at said location, parents don't have to stress about wrangling their other children while one is being photographed. That, and the scenery in the photo also serves as a memory of home for the parents! So, if you're thinking about having portraits done, why not ask your photographer if your home might work well for a few portraits.
Here's a few photos of her recent session, including two of the parent's favorites. And I just for fun, I thought I would include a favorite from her 6 month session (back in the day when I had just moved back to America and only had a white backdrop and a black backdrop).

You might think this would be much better if the Dad was looking up, but I tend to embrace those in-between moments. I like the casual nature of this family photo and so did the family!
Here's a few pictures from her session:

This is the first session that I have done on a baby other than a newborn where I only used window light. I LOVE the way the soft light wraps around the subject but I'm not so fond of the irregular catchlights in the baby's eyes. I guess there's a trade off. But, I really adore these images and aren't his outfits just perfect??
As a photographer I was so excited about all the pictures I was going to get with my new baby and all the new poses I was going to practice and try out. Well, Kaitlyn had other plans. She was not cooperative. Nevermind, though, I have managed to capture some moments, some looks, that still melt my heart when I look at them.
I borrowed the idea below and the actual ONE letters from a friend of mine. Thank you Stephanie! I did nothing to edit the pictures in the collage. They are SOOC. But the collage looks okay anyway, I think. It took ages to get a few decent pictures for this. I'd hand Kaitlyn the letters and she'd just throw them on the ground before I could snap a picture. Like I said, not the most photographically cooperative child. But don't worry, she will soon learn that taking pictures is fun. :) After all, I've already been giving her lots of practice. ha!
Here are a few other pictures from her at one year old.
Isn't the little flower clip cute? My friend, owner and creator of all pieces at FlutterbyCreationz made that little clip. Check out her store for more beautiful creations. She is so talented and does beautiful work!!

The navy blue balloon dress was the dress my oldest wore for her one year portraits. I thought it would be fun to take Kaitlyn's picture wearing it.
And here are a few Christmassy pictures from mid-November. Doesn't that hair bow just make you smile? My mom picked that up for me and thought it would be fun to add to my photo-prop box. I had to try it on Kaitlyn. It matched her red pettiskirt! :) I love it!
And for the last picture, here's one of her eating her birthday cupcake. I had wanted to do a cake smash session with her but we haven't gotten around to it yet. Can you still do a one-year session if the child is already 13 months old? Hmm. . .

Brianna was so amazing to work with and is so photogenic! She was so willing and didn't seem camera shy at all. She was also full of good ideas. Oh I wish all of my clients could possess her enthusiasm and patience. I learned, again, that there is such a fine art to posing adult women and making them look attractive, relaxed, and natural. Clearly I need to study such techniques a bit more. But, here are a few pictures from our time together. Thanks so much for giving me this opportunity, Brianna. I couldn't think of anyone better to have done a session with! I also wish you good luck as you finish your Senior year and begin your college years.

Happy 15th anniversary, my friends!

]]>It always amazes me how quickly a year goes by. And it always fascinates me to see the changes a year can bring, especially in the life of a baby. How much they change and develop and learn in those 12 precious months. I had the pleasure of photographing this little girl when she was first born and just last week I had the joy of photographing her at one year of age. How much she's grown and how cute she is with her long, wispy red hair! She wasn't overly thrilled with having her picture taken but you'd never guess so by these pictures. Her sweet older brothers are still bundles of smiles, giggles and energy and are also growing up so quickly.
