I have done a number of photo sessions in the past years but I have not shared any on my blog. Today I thought I would take a few minutes and share some of my favorite images from a senior session last year and a few from this year.

This Senior is getting his pilot's license so we headed over to the airport for a few pictures! First image below is the plane he actually flies in. 2nd image below is just an old plane at the airport.

And here are a few favorites from one senior session last year:

Really LOVED the light coming in from these old factory windows.

And I loved that his hair matched all of the rust around the outside of those old factory windows.

The more I do Senior sessions the more I find I love them!

Solomon turned 2 years old! Hendersonville, NC Child Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2015/6/solomon-turned-2-years-old-child-photographer-hendersonville-nc Solomon became a big brother just a few months ago and even more recently turned two years old. Oh My is he adorable and getting cuter every day!! I love his greenish hazel eyes and somber expressions. For a more relaxed, casual feel to his 2 year portraits, we went to the nearby Botanical Gardens and let him play and explore. Toddlers, I feel, are happiest when they feel free to roam about. It worked because he quickly relaxed and played and had fun. Happy kid, happy parents, happy photographer.

Here's a few pictures from his session at the Asheville Botanic Gardens.

At first he was really shy and stuck pretty close to his Dad. A few crackers also seemed to help.

a_MG_1715cropa_MG_1715crop

a_MG_1718a_MG_1718

Soon enough he was running around, laughing, being silly and exploring the world around him.

a_MG_1827a_MG_1827

Then his Mom quickly changed his clothes and we walked down to the creek to explore. Throwing rocks in the creek was a favorite but the water must have felt too chilly to play in. He did not want to get his toes wet!

a_MG_1903aa_MG_1903a

I love the haziness in this photo. And those overalls and hat--Mom couldn't have picked a more perfect outfit!

Miss Sara is 5 years old! Hendersonville, NC Child Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2015/5/Sara5 I've been photographing this young lady since she was 6 months old and every year she gets more beautiful! We went to her house one sunny Sunday afternoon at the beginning of May and let all of our kids play while I took photos of Sara, who is now 5 years old!

I love being able to photograph kids at their own house. It's not only the kids who are are more relaxed and at-ease in front of the camera, but I find that the parents are much calmer as well. They haven't had to get their child (or children) all dressed up, load up all their kids (if more than one) into the car and stress they their little girl might mess up her hair on the way to the photo session. Then, once arriving at said location, parents don't have to stress about wrangling their other children while one is being photographed. That, and the scenery in the photo also serves as a memory of home for the parents! So, if you're thinking about having portraits done, why not ask your photographer if your home might work well for a few portraits.

Here's a few photos of her recent session, including two of the parent's favorites. And I just for fun, I thought I would include a favorite from her 6 month session (back in the day when I had just moved back to America and only had a white backdrop and a black backdrop).

Maternity Session, Hendersonville, NC Maternity Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2015/4/maternity-session-hendersonville-nc-maternity-photographer Wintertime. Not the ideal time to do an outdoor session. However, the weather this particular day was actually really nice and the sun was shining! It was a gorgeous morning. This sweet family didn't want a big session, just a few casual shots to document the journey of pregnancy. Soon a second baby boy would join their family. Here's the client's favorite pics from the session.

a_MG_1687a_MG_1687 You might think this would be much better if the Dad was looking up, but I tend to embrace those in-between moments. I like the casual nature of this family photo and so did the family!

Eden's Senior Session, Hendersonville, NC Senior Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2015/1/edens-senior-session-hendersonville-nc-senior-photographer I had the pleasure of getting to know this young lady during her Junior year in high school and this past summer/fall I was blessed to be her Senior photographer! She is beautiful inside and out and has an incredible eye, and passion, for fashion. We had a lot of fun taking pictures and trying out different locations, poses and testing out lighting methods. It was a learning opportunity for me and fun for her. Wishing you all the best next year, Eden!!

Here's a few pictures from her session: a_MG_8273aa_MG_8273aThis was one of her favorite images. I love the lighting in this image and the soft tones. a_MG_8273aa_MG_8273aThis was one of her favorite images. I love the lighting in this image and the soft tones.

Miss Ayana, Hendersonville, NC Child Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2014/6/miss-ayana-hendersonville-nc-child-photographer It never ceases to amaze me the energy that kids have. Why is it we adults don't have even half as much as they do? This gorgeous little girl was so full of spunk she barely sat still for 2 seconds. I really had a blast with her at her session, pretending to be a kid and running around as if I were one, then crashing afterwards in sheer exhaustion and delight. Her beautiful smile and laughter was infectious indeed. Here's a peek at some of her photos!

Family Session, Hendersonville, NC Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2014/6/family-session-hendersonville-nc-photographer It's a special time when families are together, when cousins get to run around laughing and making memories and when grandparents get to enjoy their newly expanded families. I had the joy of photographing a family including the grandparents, their two sons and their respective families. The two sons, brothers, and their families were about to embark on a journey across the United States to work as traveling nurses for an extended period of time. Before they left their Mom wanted one thing, a picture of all of them together. They afternoon was rather warm with the sun shining brightly and the wind blowing strongly. Here's a peek at some of their pictures together.

Mister H & Baby S, 6 months, Hendersonville, NC Baby Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2013/5/mister-h-baby-s-6-months-hendersonville-nc-baby-photographer These adorable kids came in again for a second session with me. H had turned four years old and S was sitting up; time for new portraits! I had recently purchased some new backdrops and was excited about trying them out, so I asked the kids' Grandmother to bring something to match a turquoise background as well as the color grey. I love the bright color of the turquoise and I love how understated the grey is! Here's a few of my favorite portraits from this session.

Newborn S, Hendersonville, NC Newborn Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2013/5/newborn-s-hendersonville-nc-newborn-photographer My cousin's SIL had her first baby recently and asked me to take some newborn portraits for her. I was thrilled with the opportunity, of course. Baby S came in to my studio when he was just 13 days old. He was pretty sleepy and generally very calm, not crying much at all. But, he was quite a restless sleeper. His Mom stated that he is always moving and wiggling which meant that getting him into specific poses was rather difficult. I decided to just go with it and direct him as much as I could while letting him just be comfortable and be "him." Here's a few images from his newborn session.

Baby Tate, Hendersonville, NC Baby Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2013/4/baby-tate One of my friends brought her little boy over for a few pictures two weeks ago. After having three girls they decided to try for one my child and they were blessed to have a little boy, though they would have happily welcomed a girl. He's just so stinkin' cute and I can tell that his big sisters think he's pretty special. Here's a few pictures from his 5-month session.

This is the first session that I have done on a baby other than a newborn where I only used window light. I LOVE the way the soft light wraps around the subject but I'm not so fond of the irregular catchlights in the baby's eyes. I guess there's a trade off. But, I really adore these images and aren't his outfits just perfect??

Kaitlyn turned One!! https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2013/1/kaitlyn-turned-one It always amazes me how quickly a year goes by, especially when talking about babies. The first year of their life is such a mixture of moments that seem like they'll never end and moments you never want to end. But, the year has passed and now my little baby is a toddler: a sweet, mischievous, every-happy doodlebug toddler. Oh I couldn't love her more! This past year I have really tried to savor the moments with her, to hold her longer, to gaze into her baby eyes longer. And it was TOTALLY worth it! I wish I had done that with my first child. Kaitlyn's big sisters think she's pretty special too.

As a photographer I was so excited about all the pictures I was going to get with my new baby and all the new poses I was going to practice and try out. Well, Kaitlyn had other plans. She was not cooperative. Nevermind, though, I have managed to capture some moments, some looks, that still melt my heart when I look at them.

I borrowed the idea below and the actual ONE letters from a friend of mine. Thank you Stephanie! I did nothing to edit the pictures in the collage. They are SOOC. But the collage looks okay anyway, I think. It took ages to get a few decent pictures for this. I'd hand Kaitlyn the letters and she'd just throw them on the ground before I could snap a picture. Like I said, not the most photographically cooperative child. But don't worry, she will soon learn that taking pictures is fun. :) After all, I've already been giving her lots of practice. ha!

Here are a few other pictures from her at one year old.

a_MG_2808 Isn't the little flower clip cute? My friend, owner and creator of all pieces at FlutterbyCreationz made that little clip. Check out her store for more beautiful creations. She is so talented and does beautiful work!!

The navy blue balloon dress was the dress my oldest wore for her one year portraits. I thought it would be fun to take Kaitlyn's picture wearing it.

a_MG_2870_2x3

a_MG_2888 And here are a few Christmassy pictures from mid-November. Doesn't that hair bow just make you smile? My mom picked that up for me and thought it would be fun to add to my photo-prop box. I had to try it on Kaitlyn. It matched her red pettiskirt! :) I love it!

a_MG_2151

a_MG_2117 And for the last picture, here's one of her eating her birthday cupcake. I had wanted to do a cake smash session with her but we haven't gotten around to it yet. Can you still do a one-year session if the child is already 13 months old? Hmm. . .

A Christmas Session, Hendersonville, NC Child Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2013/1/a-christmas-session-hendersonville-nc-child-photographer My friends came over for a portrait session just a few days before they moved across to the other side of the country. I was sad to see them go but was excited that we had one more time together before they left. What a joy it is to not only get to see a baby grow up, but to have the privilege of photographing him at each stage of his life. Little Garrett was close to 7 months of age at this time and was sitting up confidently and beginning to crawl around everywhere. Look out girls! When these boys get older they're going to melt your heart!

My First Senior Girl Session, Hendersonville, NC Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2013/1/my-first-senior-girl-session-hendersonville-nc-photographer I was so delighted when one of the high school seniors asked me to do her senior portraits. This was not something I had done before but was really excited about the idea. We went out on two separate occasions for these pictures. The first was an evening right after the sun had dipped below the horizon so we sill had light but not really any direct sunlight. The second time we went out it was freezing cold, windy, and very overcast day. Oftentimes I prefer an overcast sky if shooting at midday because then I don't have to worry about such harsh shadows. But, cold and windy made for an interesting time.

Brianna was so amazing to work with and is so photogenic! She was so willing and didn't seem camera shy at all. She was also full of good ideas. Oh I wish all of my clients could possess her enthusiasm and patience. I learned, again, that there is such a fine art to posing adult women and making them look attractive, relaxed, and natural. Clearly I need to study such techniques a bit more. But, here are a few pictures from our time together. Thanks so much for giving me this opportunity, Brianna. I couldn't think of anyone better to have done a session with! I also wish you good luck as you finish your Senior year and begin your college years.

Engagement Session, Asheville, NC Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2012/10/engagement-session-asheville-nc-photographer At first I was quite hesitant to accept the job of taking these engagement photos. Most of my photographic experience has been with children, so capturing the emotion and love between a couple was something quite new to me. Having only done one e-session before that didn't turn out brilliantly, I was rather nervous about doing these. Thankfully my friend helped me out with ideas and this couple was SO willing to try this pose or that pose. I really enjoyed getting to know this beautiful family and am so thankful they gave me the opportunity to practice a new skill. I have a lot to learn but I was very happy with the way their photos turned out. In editing the pictures I also tried some new techniques to give the photos more of an earthy feel. At the end of the day, I realized that I had had fun and the next time I do an anniversary or engagement session I'm sure I will do even better! Thanks for believing in me guys! And congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I wish you all the best!

Two Preteens, Hendersonville, NC Child Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2012/10/two-preteens-hendersonville-nc-child-photographer I had my first preteen session back in May of this year. Here's a few pictures from their session. Watching the two together I couldn't help but think back to my own childhood. I have an older brother and for the most part we enjoyed spending time together. Sure we pestered each other and drove our mother crazy at times, but all in all we got along pretty well. Siblings are such a blessing on earth--even if it doesn't always seem like it!

15th Anniversary Session, Hendersonville, NC Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2012/10/15th-anniversary-session-hendersonville-nc-photographer In August I met up with one of my dear friends and her husband to take some pictures commemorating their 15th wedding anniversary. What a blessing it is to celebrate wedding milestones in a day in age where divorce is so commonplace. Their love and commitment for each other was quite obvious throughout the evening. How amazing is it to spend 15 years of your life with someone? To learn all of that someone's ins and outs, ups and downs, lefts and rights, and to become so completely comfortable with someone that you can just be yourself. Wholly and completely. Without fear of judgement. True Love. Beautiful!

Happy 15th anniversary, my friends!

Sibling Fun, Hendersonville, NC Child Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2012/7/sibling-fun-hendersonville-nc-child-photographer Summer was almost here and these gorgeous, bubbly kids each had a spring birthday! What a good time for new pictures. I'd venture to say that both of these kids are used to having their picture taken too. They're such fun to photograph and I always look forward to spending time with this family. They made the afternoon fun. I love watching the two of them together, too. I can tell how much they love each other, even though at times they are just a typical brother and sister pestering each other. Their Mom, owner of Flutterby Creationz (http://www.etsy.com/shop/FlutterbyCreationz), handmade their matching tie and headband along with her flower brooch. Here's a few pics from their session.

Sweet Baby Boy, Hendersonville, NC Baby Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2012/7/sweet-baby-boy-hendersonville-nc-baby-photographer I'm just trying to catch up and add a few blog posts to my new blog. A few months ago a friend of mine welcomed into the world her 2nd baby boy and she brought him over for some newborn pictures. Family members had crocheted him special baby blankets and she wanted to get some pictures of her son wrapped in those sweet gifts. Baby G did not want to stay asleep at first. He did finally drifted off into a sweet sleep so we could capture those all too fleeting sweet newborn baby sleeping pictures! What a precious, precious baby boy!

Miss Lydia turns One, Hendersonville, NC Child Photographer https://www.carvillphotography.com/blog/2012/6/miss-lydia-turns-one-hendersonville-nc-child-photographer This is my first post on my new blog.

It always amazes me how quickly a year goes by. And it always fascinates me to see the changes a year can bring, especially in the life of a baby. How much they change and develop and learn in those 12 precious months. I had the pleasure of photographing this little girl when she was first born and just last week I had the joy of photographing her at one year of age. How much she's grown and how cute she is with her long, wispy red hair! She wasn't overly thrilled with having her picture taken but you'd never guess so by these pictures. Her sweet older brothers are still bundles of smiles, giggles and energy and are also growing up so quickly.

Here she was as a brand new baby, not even a week old yet. a_MG_0345 a_MG_0373 a_MG_0637 a_MG_0672
